Deepawali, also known as Diwali, is a five-day Hindu festival of lights. It’s celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists. The festival takes place in the Hindu months of Ashvin and Kartika, which fall between mid-October and mid-November. The date changes every year.
In 2023, Deepawali will be celebrated on Sunday, November 12.
Deepawali symbolizes the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance”. It’s celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama after 14 years of exile and his victory over the Demon Ravana.
Deepawali is celebrated for five consecutive days in many parts of India. It’s considered to be one of the most important festivals of lights.
